A DBMS has a function that can be distinguished from an information retrieval system.
DBMS has the ability to store, update and retrieve data. This is the main function of a DBMS because the database can be used if there is any record stored in the database. The record must be retrieved first, then it can be changed by the database administrator as the record will have been updated. The DBMS will protect the structure of the data structure.
Another function of the DBMS is concurrency control services. The database management system must ensure that the database is updated correctly because the database can be used by many users. A Document Management System (DMS) enables multiple users to access data simultaneously. It will help the database management system from data loss. It contains features that can support updates such as batch processing, locking, two-phase locking, and time stamping.
The function of DBMS is that it contains recovery services. This means that if the database is corrupted, the database management system will restore the records and all information. Data and records need to be recovered and backed up so that they are not lost permanently. Regular backup is needed because the user does not know what will happen to the computer and the data may be lost.
